Your hosts in Stratford
We'll give you suggestions for places to eat but you can also browse the Culinary Guide for info. Stratford is in the middle of Perth County which has many places to visit. Don't miss strolling in Stratford, including visits to the Shakespeare Garden, Lake Victoria's walking paths in our city's park system, the swans in the river — we have many stories to tell about them, Stratford Chefs School, local antique shops, Bradshaws Kitchen Store, Macleods Scottish Shop, and the other enticing shops of downtown. What we don't know, you may learn from the other guests.
Stratford is home to Canada's Stratford Shakespeare Festival where Milton is an usher. It has a repertory company that puts on plays and musicals in four theatres — all within walking distance of our house. During the 2018 and 2019 season, the Tom Patterson Theatre was rebuilt. In 2020 the Stratford Festival was postponed due to the pandemic. The Festival re-opened in outdoor venues for 2021. In 2022 we were back to regular performances and will do the same in 2023. The Stratford Festival usually hosts over 300 events in the Forum to extend your enjoyment of the shows. We can access digital programs for most performances and can suggest which might be of interest to you. We'd love to hear your reviews too — so we can share them with others.
We have many other events in town including the Stratford Summer Music Festival which begins with a fireworks display in early July. We're always ready with maps and brochures to help you plan your visit to our city.
We are very active as volunteers in Stratford. Milton currently looks after the website for The Stratford Scrabble Club and worked on the PAL Stratford, Sleeping Children Around the World, and Cycle Stratford sites. Manfred volunteers at the Stratford General Hospital, the Rotary Hospice, and our Public Health Unit's vaccine clinics. Don’t forget to ask him about his coffee grinder collection.
The Tom Patterson Theatre was rebuilt in 2018, 2019, and 2020. It is now finished and open for performances. An article about the theatre was published in the Globe and Mail which you can read here.
